Conversations at the Conrad. Catherine Stewart Howarth Carter was the quintessential 20th century modern woman. Born in 1913, she was raised in DeLand during the Roaring Twenties, educated at Stetson University (where she earned a law degree at the age of 20), she experienced the vicissitudes of the Great Depression and the uncertainty of WWI and the Cold War period. Her life was rich and varied: a wife and mother, attorney, business woman, politician, advocate for reform of the juvenile justice system and a passionate lecturer. Catherine is portrayed by Mary Selter of the DeLand House Players. 2 pm at the Conrad Center located at 137 W. Michigan Avenue in DeLand. Admission is $5; free for WVHS members. Call 386-7413 for reservations.
